The Friendly Places initiative encourages faith groups to recognise that they have the capacity to provide places of support and acceptance for those struggling with mental health issues. We are encouraging faith groups to sign the Friendly Places Pledge:
I believe that there is a significant and positive role for faith communities to play in the support of mental health.
I pledge to support faith groups in my community to become Friendly Places which welcome and support those struggling with their mental health.
For faith groups, the pledge is about:
• Recognising the small, intentional things that make a big difference to those struggling with mental health who are a part of the faith group's community
• Recognising that those suffering with their mental health should not be placed on the margins of the community
• Recognising the role that faith groups already play in providing welcome and support
• Encouraging further practical steps to provide support and tackle mental health stigma and discrimination – from making sure that there is someone at the door to welcome everyone, to ensuring that those in need can be signposted to professional services

Dementia Friendly Churches
Dementia currently affects 800,000 people in the UK and the number is set to double in the next 30 years.
Most areas of the county are now beginning to address the need for Dementia Friendly Communities and we can play our part.
A series of four training sessions have been arranged at
St Cuthbert's Church Centre, Lytham Road, Preston
On 3rd and 10th December and 14th and 21st January
All from 1.00 pm – 5.00 pm
They are open to all church member and the sessions lead from one to another
Session 1: Stories - The experience of people with dementia
Session 2: Relationships - The role of carers, friends and family
Session 3: Support – What help is available for people with dementia and their families
Session 4: Community – How the church be a partner in developing dementia friendly communities

Fox Street Community was established in 1986 by the
We are looking to recruit highly motivated individuals for the above post. The role is to provide support for service users in a residential setting, treating each service user as an individual, and empowering them to live independent and fulfilling lives in the community. We are seeking reliable, flexible and pro-social individuals, with excellent communication skills, an avid interest in homelessness, a flexible approach to working hours, and the ability to work in a team environment.
Main duties include:
Delivering workshops and involving service users in life skills; establishing professional relationships with stakeholders; supporting and empowering service users; attending internal meetings; maintaining records; driving the company van; collecting and distributing donations; covering reception; basic administration duties; operating within Methodist Action's policies and procedures.
This is a Fixed Term Full Time contract to
37 hours minimum per week. 7.30am-3.30pm/2.00pm-10.00pm shift work, over a 7 day period – continuous 2 week rota, but can be asked to work flexibly if necessary
