An opportunity for Food Poverty Projects to apply for a number of slow cookers

Apologies for multiple postings of this... It is mainly directed to projects within the Feeding Lancashire Together network.. but is open for all groups addressing food poverty issues within the Lancashire County Council area

As part of the Feeding Lancashire Together Project, Together Lancashire was awarded funding to pilot approaches to using slow cookers; increasingly, we have noticed that foodbanks and other food poverty response organisations are exploring how they can teach clients how to cook on a budget. TL wishes to explore the development of models using slow cooking methods (recognising low fuel usage) to enable best practice to be developed amongst different client groups.

Target groups will potentially be families and children, possibly working through children, youth and family support organisations; older people, potentially working through over 50's groups etc. This is not by any means an exclusive list, and applications are welcomed from organisations with other clients. Developing links to those organisations with access to fresh/nutritious food is encouraged, eg Fareshare, allotment associations, community farms.

Organisations may apply for up to six cookers (for a really special project!), but it is anticipated that the norm will be 1-2. In addition, if organisations require other equipment such as soup/stick blenders, these may also be provided, subject to funds. Funds are not unlimited, and therefore we are working on a first come first served basis, with a target cut off date of 18 September 2015.

Training to participants can be provided or potentially funded if required, eg for food hygiene.

The main conditions attached to the donation of cookers are that a case study must be provided, and that wherever possible, recipes should be shared. We want to know what works, what appeals to different target groups, and how can the project be developed.

The full Programme Criteria are available on request, together with an application form. Please do forward this to colleagues who you think may be interested.
