National Estates Churches Network Conference .. in the North

This year's NECN conference will consider the various current takes on mission, check out how each approach can be undertaken sensitively or insensitively, discuss why we might need to be concerned about that, and share many stories and programmes which are attempting to do it right.

at 10:00–15:30

Church of the Epiphany, Beech Lane, Gipton, Leeds, LS9 6SW

Many s
peakers and practitioners will share their ideas, concerns and challenges so that we hope to come away with fresh insight and lots of new ideas to try.

As always, this conference is for lay people as well as ministers, all denominations and those who work in other Christian groupings. We keep the cost down (still only £20 for the day including lunch and hot drinks) and offer essentially the same one day programme in two venues – one north and one south – to help your travel expense.

Come along, bring some friends, meet old friends and new, and learn how to be a housing estate Christian with pride, and without prejudice.

  1. Laurie Green says "I am now writing to confirm the speakers and to encourage you to book if you haven’t already done so.

Our speakers: - all passionate about sensitive mission
LAURIE GREEN: is Chair of NECN, bishop and author – his new book “Blessed are the Poor?” looks at Housing Estate poverty and ministry, and how the Gospel looks so different if we see Jesus from the perspective of the poor.
JOHN HAYES: inspirational leader of innerCHANGE, an international yet very local missional community working in our poorest social housing. Author of Submerge: living deep in a shallow world. He’ll bring some of his wonderful art-work.
CORIN PILLING: worked with the Cardinal Hume Centre for some years, specialising in education and employment issues. He has broadcast on human rights on BBC TV. He will help us look at mission from different perspectives.
ANNA RUDDICK: was National Development Coordinator for the Eden Network and is now Community Engagement Associate with Livability. She is a well-known speaker and activist.
JANE WINTER: is NECN’s secretary and has been engaged in housing estate ministry for many years. She is a recognised expert in Community Ministry and trains lay leaders in Rochester Diocese.
RUTH YOUNG: is a specialist in Community Mission and advises parishes and groups around the country – you may remember her as Ruth Smith."
